Will Hoskins joined Rovers on a free transfer from Watford in 2010 and spent just one season with the club, leaving in May 2011 to join Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee. Playing up front, he ended the season with 20 goals from 47 appearances in all competitions. He ended the season with a disappointing run of two goals in his last fifteen games dating back to mid-February 2011, at which point he had scored an impressive 18 goals in 32 appearances, but Rovers' relegation to League Two in 2011 meant they were unable to retain his services. Early in his career he was capped by England at under-18, under-19 and under-20 levels.

Will was brought into professional football by Rotherham United, who awarded him his first contract at the age of 17. In all he scored 23 goals in 73 appearances for Rotherham, but it was his tally of 15 goals from 24 games in the first half of the 2006–07 season that brought him to the attention of Watford. The Hornets paid a combined £1,200,000 for him and Lee Williamson on 5 January 2007, but it would be a further nineteen months before he scored his first goal for them.

After joining Watford he failed to make a major impact on the first team, and he was loaned out to Millwall and Nottingham Forest during the 2007–08 season. He played ten times in the League for the Lions, and twice in the FA Cup, scoring twice in each competition, before making just two appearances for Forest without finding the back of the net.

On his return to the Watford first team he eventually managed his first goal on 12 August 2008, when he scored the only goal of the match in a 1–0 victory over Bristol Rovers in the League Cup. He went on to make 60 League, two FA Cup and eight League Cup appearances, scoring a total of ten goals, before being released in the summer of 2010. A number of clubs had expressed an interest in signing Hoskins, including Brighton & Hove Albion, but he eventually elected to sign for Bristol Rovers. Brighton finally got their man a year later however when they picked him up for an undisclosed fee.

His first season with The Seagulls was something of a damp squib. After making just two starts and five substitute appearances in the league by the end of January 2012 he was sent out on loan to Sheffield United for the remainder of the campaign.
