Simon Bryant is a midfielder who came through the Rovers youth system and spent five years as a professional with the club, making a total of 87 league appearances (105 in all competitions) and scoring two goals. His debut for the Pirates came in a League Cup first round, second leg match against Luton Town on 25 August 1999, when he came on as a 77th-minute substitute for Ronnie Maugé. He went on to make fifteen appearances in Division Two and three in the League Cup during 1999-00, his first season as a professional.

During his second season in the pro ranks he was more of a regular in first team, playing in thirty league games, and scoring his first of only two goals in his senior career in a 3–0 win over Cambridge United on 23 September 2000. For the remainder of his time at the club Simon was something of a fringe player, making a handful of appearances in each of the next three seasons. Late in 2003 Simon was sent out on loan to Tiverton Town for a month by manager Ray Graydon, and at the end of the 2003-04 season he was released.

After leaving Bristol Rovers, Simon dropped out of the Football League and signed for Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2004. He spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons with Hanham Athletic in the Gloucestershire County League, and in the summer of 2008 he made the step up to join Southern League side Mangotsfield United. He left Mangotsfield less than a month after signing for them, citing work commitments for his departure, and without playing a single competitive match. He then signed for Cadbury Heath at the end of August 2008, to play for them in Division One of the Western League, and a year later moved to their divisional rivals Oldland Abbotonians. He moved a step up the League ladder in 2011 when he signed for Premier Division side Longwell Green Sports and when Martyn Grimshaw was appointed as manager the following October he took Bryant on as his assistant.
