Scott Howie is a goalkeeper who spent two years at Rovers from 2001 until 2003. He joined the Pirates in the summer of 2001 from Reading and made 90 league appearances, plus 16 in cup competitions, in his 24 months at the club. He was the first choice 'keeper for the whole of that spell, and missed just two league games.

The two years that Scott spent at Rovers were two of the lowest in the club's history, with 23rd and 20th place finishes in the fourth level of English football – the lowest end of season placings the team has had since joining the Football League.

He left Bristol in the summer of 2003 to join Shrewsbury Town, and was replaced at the Memorial Stadium by new 'keeper Kevin Miller.

Scott has been picked to represent his native Scotland at under-21 level, being capped five times by them between 1991 and 1993.

After playing non-league football for Ferguslie United in Scotland, Scott's first senior club was Clyde, who he joined in 1991, at the age of 19. After two years with Clyde, during which time he was capped by the Scottish Under-21s, he joined Norwich City in 1993 for a fee of £300,000. While at the Carrow Road club, Scott was backup to first-choice keeper Bryan Gunn, and made just two league appearances before heading back north of the border in 1994 for the same fee to join Motherwell.

Howie spent four years at Motherwell, making 69 league appearances for them, before having a brief loan spell at Coventry City in 1998, during which he did not play any games. He moved on to Reading later that year for a fee of £30,000, and played 85 times for them in the league before joining Rovers in 2001.

After leaving Rovers he spent two years with Shrewsbury Town and one with Cambridge United before finally deciding to hang up his gloves in 2006 to concentrate on his career away from football. His retirement was short-lived however, and he signed for Southern League side King's Lynn in April 2007, where he has remained until 2009, and then Wroxham.
