Richard Rose spent two months on loan at Rovers from Gillingham in late 2002 and early 2003. The defender was due to stay in Bristol for longer, but an injury crisis at his parent club led to him being recalled to provide cover in defence.
Career[]
Richard came through the Gillingham youth system, and made his debut for them in 2001 as an 18-year-old. He made only a handful of first team appearances for The Gills before joining Rovers on loan at the end of 2002, but a series of good performances, and positive feedback from manager Ray Graydon, led to him getting slightly more playing time at his parent club on his return. He was still far from a first team regular though, making 14–18 league appearances in each of the three seasons after his loan spell, and he was eventually released at the end of the 2005–06 campaign.
Hereford United offered Richard a contract in the summer of 2006 and he immediately became a more important figure in the squad, playing more games in his first two years in Hereford than he did in his entire six seasons with Gillingham. His third season with the Bulls saw the team earn promotion to League One, thanks to a third-place finish in the table, but they were unable to cope with the higher level of football and were relegated the following season.
After being released by Hereford at the end of the 2010–11 season, Richard signed for Dagenham & Redbridge in August 2011, and went on to make ten league appearances for them in the 2011–12 campaign.

Record against Rovers[]
Richard has played against Rovers six times in his career, all for Hereford United, and has had a fairly unsuccessful time of it. He has been on the losing side four times and drawn twice, although one of those draws was in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and saw Hereford advance to the next round on a penalty shootout. His side have allowed twelve goals in those six games and have scored just twice.
He was also an unused substitute in Dagenham & Redbridge's 2–0 defeat to Rovers on 29 October 2011.
