Rene Howe was loaned in by Rovers from Peterborough United during the 2010–11 season in an effort to add more depth to the squad up front, following the departure from the club of fellow on-loan striker John Akinde.

His only goal for The Pirates came in his sixth game, when he produced the winner in a 1–0 victory over Oldham Athletic, but he was unable to prevent Rovers' relegation to League Two at the end of that season.

Career[]

Rene, who's full name is Jermaine Renee Howe, began his footballing career in 2003 with his home town club, Bedford Town, before moving to Kettering Town in 2006. A year later he was picked up by Football League side Peterborough United, but he failed to establish himself in the first team and was loaned out to Rochdale, Morecambe, Lincoln City, Gillingham and Rushden & Diamonds prior to his spell at Rovers.

He made his debut for Rovers on 29 January 2011, when he came on as a half-time substitute for Jo Kuffour in a 6–1 thumping at the hands of Walsall. After returning to his parent club following his loan spell in Bristol Peterborough opted not to renew his contract and released him. Having not played a league game for The Posh in the past three years this decision was perhaps not surprising, and he was snapped up by Torquay United in summer 2011.

It wasn't long before he returned to the Memorial Stadium, when he scored The Gulls' winner in The Pirates' first home game of the 2011–12 season. He went on to make 81 league appearances for Torquay, but rejected the offer of a new contract with them in 2013, opting instead to move to Burton Albion.
