Mark Wright is a midfielder who signed for Rovers for an undisclosed five-figure transfer fee on transfer deadline day, 1 September 2009. Rovers picked him up from Brighton & Hove Albion, who in turn had only signed him little over two months earlier from Milton Keynes Dons.

He made his debut for the Pirates in the first match in which he was eligible to play, the 2–0 League One victory over Millwall at the Memorial Stadium on 5 September 2009, but after making just 24 appearances during his debut season in Bristol he was informed that he was no longer part of Paul Trollope's plans for the club, and that he would be allowed to leave if another club came in for him. That summer he joined Shrewsbury Town on a four-month long loan deal, taking him up to the January transfer window, when he signed for them permanently.

Career[]

Mark began his career at Walsall, turning pro in 2000, and in the early stages of his time as a professional was loaned out to Nuneaton Borough where he played in five league games comprising of three starts and two substitute appearances. He remained at Walsall for a total of seven years, playing a total of 141 games in all competitions and scoring nine goals.

In 2007 Wright joined Milton Keynes Dons on a free transfer and after playing 66 league games, scoring 18 goals, and twelve cup appearances, scoring twice in two years at the club, moved again on a free to Brighton and Hove Albion. Mark failed to settle on the south coast however, and after beginning the season playing regularly soon found himself on the fringes of the first team. Just two months after officially becoming a Brighton player he joined Rovers on transfer deadline day 2009 for an undisclosed fee, known to be a five-figure sum. He was a semi-regular in his first season with Rovers, making 24 appearances before being told in the summer of 2010 that he could leave the club.

Early in the 2010–11 season Mark joined Shrewsbury Town on loan and was an instant hit, scoring ten goals in his 21 league appearances during the period, and picking up the November 2010 League Two player of the month award. Keen to keep hold of his services, Shrewsbury agreed a deal with Rovers to sign him permanently during the January 2011 transfer window.
