Career[]

Although born in Northern Ireland, Liam began his footballing career in England with Port Vale as a trainee. He progressed to the first team and went on to play 119 games for the Valiants. After being released at the end of the 2003-04 season he joined Rovers before very brief spells at Shrewsbury Town (2 league games), Kidderminster Harriers (1 game) and Forest Green Rovers (3 games).

Liam moved to Ireland to join Sligo Rovers for the 2005 season in the eircom League, winning the First Division title and promotion to the Premier Division in his first year. After a second year at the Showgrounds, manager Sean Connor left to take charge at Bohemians at the end of the 2006 season and Liam soon followed, establishing himself as a first team regular at Dalymount Park. At the end of the 2008 season he won the Premier Division title with Bohs, but left the club at the end of the season to join Dundalk. He returned for a second season with Dundalk after having failed in an attempt to land a contract with Shamrock Rovers in 2010, but turned down a contract offer for him to stay for a third year, opting instead to return to Bohs. He returned to Dundalk in time for the 2012 season, having played 32 times for the Dublin club.
