Lee Maddison is a former defender who started his career at Bristol Rovers. He spent just over four years with the Rovers first team, during which time he had a brief loan spell at Bath City, and he made 73 appearances in the Football League before leaving to join Northampton Town in 1995 for a transfer fee of £25,000.
Towards the end of his career in 2004, while he was at Gretna, Lee was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It effectively spelt the end of his footballing career, although he did go on to make a handful more appearances. He later captained Team Give Blood, a football team created to raise awareness of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service and increase the number of blood donors.
Career[]
After starting his career at Rovers, Lee joined Northampton Town in 1995 where he played 52 League games in two years. From there he joined Scottish top-flight side Dundee in 1997, who became founder members of the newly-created Scottish Premier League the following year. He was loaned to Carlisle United in October 2000, and after three months the deal became permanent. Carlisle loaned him out to Oxford United late in the 2001–02 season, and in 2003 he returned to Scotland to join Gretna.
