Lee Brown, who can play in defence or midfield, joined Rovers from Queens Park Rangers in the 2011 squad overhaul that saw a total of 15 new players arrive at the club. He made his debut for The Gas in the opening game of the 2011–12 season, a 3–2 victory over AFC Wimbledon. He remained the first choice left-back for the early part of the season due to Gary Sawyer being sidelined by injury, but as the season progressed he was used more and more in midfield.

He was almost an ever-present in the team during his first season, named in the match-day 16-man squad for 45 out of 46 league games, and he played in 42 of them, scoring 7 goals.

Gary came through the youth set-up at Queens Park Rangers, eventually joining the professional ranks at the club in July 2008. After a year in the QPR squad without making an impact on the first team he was sent out on loan to Salisbury City in September 2009, where he made thirteen appearances in the Conference National. On his return to west London in December he found himself again frozen out of the team, but he eventually got his chance to play late in the 2009–10 season when he made his Championship debut as a substitute for Tamas Priskin against Barnsley on 24 April. Unfortunately for him he wasn't brought on until the 89th minute, so was unable to make much of an impression, and as he never played for QPR again it meant his entire three-year spell with them consisted of a single minute of football.

Gary was loaned out twice more during the 2010–11 season, both times to Hayes & Yeading, where he made a total of 28 appearances in the Conference National and a further four in cup competitions, before being released by QPR in the summer of 2011.
