Jon Beswetherick, known as Bes, is a former defender who spent four months at Rovers in 2004. His only appearance for the club was in a League Cup game against Norwich City at Carrow Road, when he started the game but was substituted after 59 minutes, in what ended as a 1–0 defeat for the Pirates.

He was signed on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2004, before being allowed to leave on another free transfer in November that year, this time to Kidderminster Harriers.

Career[]

Jon's first senior club was Plymouth Argyle, and his spell at Plymouth was probably the most productive of his career, playing 138 league games in a seven-year spell from 1995 to 2002. He was signed by Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer in 2002, and his two years at Hillsborough were considerably less fruitful, only making it onto the pitch eleven times in the league during that period, and was sent out on loan to Swindon Town and Macclesfield Town.

After his brief spell at Rovers Jon had an even more brief stay at Kidderminster Harriers, spending only two months at the club before heading back to the West Country to join Forest Green Rovers for the remainder of the 2004-05 season. In the summer of 2005 he was signed by Salisbury City, where he spent three years, during which time he had loan spells at Mangotsfield United and Weston-super-Mare, before being released in 2008 having played a total of 52 league games and scoring a single goal. After an unsuccessful trial with Bath City, Bes joined Paulton Rovers that summer but quit after a year as his job as a police constable meant he was unable to commit to playing regularly.
