Career[]
Jon came through the youth teams at Birmingham City, and progressed into their first team in 1994. He spent a further seven years at St Andrews, during which time he had loan spells at Carlisle United and Gillingham, before joining Hartlepool United in 2001. He went on to make 24 appearances for Hartlepool, scoring one goal. In February 2004 he moved to Asia, signing for Pahang FA, and won the inaugural Malaysian Super League in his first season there. He began the 2005 season with Pahang, but moved back to England to join Bristol Rovers in March of that year. He spent one full season at the Memorial Stadium, but was realeased in 2006 and joined Salisbury City. While at Salisbury he won promotion to the Conference National division via the playoffs at the end of his first season.
After what Jon called "quite a tough season physically and mentally" in 2008-09, when he was the only part-time player on Salisbury's books, he decided to call a halt to his playing career to concentrate full time on his family's building business.
