John Akinde is a forward who joined Rovers on loan from fierce rivals Bristol City in August 2010. His record at Rovers was less than stellar however, failing to find the net in eighteen appearances in all competitions, and although Rovers had the option to extend the deal they opted not to retain his services when the initial loan period expired.

Career[]

Akinde's career started at his local club, Ebbsfleet United. He was amongst the club's professional ranks for two years during which time the club was taken over by the website MyFootballClub which allows members to vote on important club matters. Having played 28 times in the league, scoring 10 goals and winning the FA Trophy as well, Akinde became linked with a number of bigger clubs. As a result, he became the first ever player to be transferred based on the result of a fans vote.

He signed for Bristol City and made his debut in a 2-2 draw with Plymouth Argyle scoring City's first goal. He joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan in March 2009 and again scored on his debut, scoring twice in a 3-3 draw with Brentford.

The following season, he again joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan but was recalled later on before being loaned out again that season, this time to Brentford. He was loaned out twice more during the 2010-11 season, to Rovers and Dagenham & Redbridge before finally being released by The Robins in the summer and signing for Crawley Town. Despite playing fairly regularly for Crawley throughout the 2011–12 season, he was loaned out for a second spell with The Daggers in March 2012, returning to the Crawley lineup on his return to the club a month later. He was released by Crawley at the end of January 2013, having made just six substitute appearances in the league up to that point in the 2012–13 season. Shortly afterwards he joined Portsmouth on a month-to-month deal, but he was released in the summer of 2013.
