Rovers made their second and final appearance at the old Wembley Stadium on 28 May 1995 when they took on Huddersfield Town in the Second Division Play-Off final.

Rovers had squeezed past Crewe Alexandra on the away goals rule in the semi-final, following a 0–0 draw at Twerton Park and a 1–1 result at Gresty Road. The Terriers meanwhile had required a penalty shootout victory over Brentford to reach the Twin Towers, having drawn both legs of their semi 1–1. (source: FCHD)

When the big day eventually came around, The Pirates suffered a 2–1 defeat, the same result as their other appearance at the stadium, a Football League Associate Members Cup (Leyland DAF Cup) final reverse at the hands of Tranmere Rovers on 20 May 1990.
