Guy Ipoua was a forward who joined Rovers in 1998 from Spainish side Alicante. He became the first Cameroonian to play for the Gas when he made his debut on 8 August 1998, coming on as a 73rd-minute substitute for Jamie Cureton in a 2–1 defeat to Burnley.

During his year-long stint in Bristol he played 24 times in the league, scoring three times, and also played a further seven cup games without scoring before being released in the summer of 1999.

Guy's brother, Samuel Ipoua, is a former Cameroon international. He faced Italy and Austria in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup in France and also took part in the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations.

After moving from Cameroon to France as a child, Guy spent time with a number of European clubs in the 1990s. Before joining Rovers in 1998 he had had spells with AS Nancy, Torino, Atlético Madrid, Novelda and Alicante.

After being released by Ian Holloway Guy remained in England and spent two years with each of Scunthorpe United and Gillingham, before moving to Scotland in 2003 to join Livingston. He made just a single substitute appearance in the league for Livi, and one more in the League Cup, returning to England a year later with Doncaster Rovers, via an unsuccessful trial at American side FC Dallas. His time with Doncaster was also less than successful and he was loaned out to both Mansfield Town and Lincoln City during the year he spent with them.

After spending a year with Hereford United during the 2004–05 season he had a very brief spell at Forest Green Rovers in 2005 before returning home to his native Cameroon to play for Oryx Douala.

Following his retirement from playing he started his own business in Cameroon that helps various organisations with water conservation, and in a 2010 interview he stated that he would like to return to football, possibly as a club chairman.
