Gavin Williams joined Rovers from local rivals Bristol City on a short term deal on 1 February 2011. Although this was the day after the transfer deadline he was allowed to sign for The Pirates as he had been released by his former club the previous day, before the deadline had passed.

He was a part of The Pirates' ultimately unsuccessful attempt to avoid relegation at the end of the 2010–11 season and was released at the end of that campaign having scored twice in 19 league appearances.

He has represented his native Wales at semi-pro and full international level, winning two caps for the senior side in 2005 against Slovenia and Cyprus.

Career[]

Gavin's first senior club was Hereford United, where he was initially a YTS player before progressing on to their first team squad and making his debut at the age of 17. In 2002 he joined Yeovil Town for a transfer fee of £22,500 and was part of the Conference championship-winning side in his first season there, winning the club's player of the year award in the process.

He spent just over one season in Yeovil's Football League side, where he made such a big impression that West Ham United signed him in December 2004 for a quarter of a million pounds. Unfortunately though he failed to make a major impact with The Hammers, playing just ten league games before being loaned to Ipswich Town, who later forked out £300,000 to sign him permanently in January 2006. After a flying start with Ipswich injury problems limited his chances in the 2007–08 season and in the summer of 2008 he was signed by Bristol City for an undisclosed fee. He was twice loaned back to his old club, Yeovil Town, by City before being released on 31 January 2011 whereupon he signed for Rovers on a short-term deal until the summer. After being released by The Pirates at the expiry of his contract he returned for a fourth spell with Yeovil.
