German midfielder Fabian Broghammer joined Rovers in the summer of 2012 after having been recommended to manager Mark McGhee by his former Hamburger SV teammate Felix Magath, who at this point was managing VfL Wolfsburg.
Although he agreed terms with the club on 12 August, he was forced to sit out the first game of the 2012–13 season, a 3–1 defeat to Ipswich Town in the League Cup on 14 August, while his international clearance was pending. He was able to make his debut the following Saturday in the opening League Two fixture of the campaign, a 2–0 reverse at the hands of Oxford United.
His first goal for The Pirates came during a 2–2 draw with Aldershot Town on 8 September 2012. His last-minute equaliser earned a point for Rovers and avoided a third consecutive defeat.
Career[]
After playing junior football for a number of clubs, including Eintracht Frankfurt, Fabian joined Hoffenheim's youth set-up in 2007 and a year later he was moved up into their reserve team.
He spent two years with VfB Stuttgart's reserves between 2009 and 2011, before signing for SV Darmstadt 98. His playing time with Darmstadt was extremely limited, resulting in him leaving the club during the January 2012 transfer window. He had a brief stay with FC Bayern Alzenau at the end of the 2011–12 season, and following a successful trial period he signed for Rovers in August 2012.
