Eliot Richards is a former Rovers trainee, who came through the old Rovers centre of excellence in the Bristol Academy of Sport, before the youth team was brought back under the auspices of the football club. He plays as a striker and graduated to the professional ranks at the club in 2009, along with seven other first-year professionals; Neikell Plummer, Dan Cayford, Mark Cooper, Ollie Clarke, George Booth, Steve Kingdon and Jack McKenna.
Richards was named in the Bristol Rovers matchday squad for the first time on 26 August 2009, when he was an unused substitute in a 3–1 defeat to Cardiff City in the League Cup. He went on to spend the full 90 minutes sitting on the bench eleven times before finally making it onto the pitch for the first time, making his first team debut as a substitute in a 1–0 defeat to Gillingham on 20 February 2010. His first goal in League football came just over a year later when he scored for The Pirates in a 2–1 defeat to Colchester United in the final game of the 2010–11 relegation season.
His progression continued during 2011–12 when he started getting regular first team football under his belt for the first time, making 32 league appearances that year, 14 of which were from the bench. He scored the first senior hat-trick of his career on 14 April 2012 in a 7–1 thrashing of Burton Albion at the Memorial Stadium.
He has been capped by the Welsh Under-19 side, making his debut for them on 5 May 2010 in a match against Northern Ireland.
