Jeff Hughes scored the first hat-trick of his career in this League One match against Dagenham & Redbridge to take all three points in an away game for the first time since 20 March, almost exactly six months earlier. This was the first ever meeting between Bristol Rovers and The Daggers in the Football League; the only previous game between the clubs coming in the Football League Trophy in 2001.
This was only Rovers' second win in eight games during the 2010–11 campaign, and the three points were enough to move them up from 17th to 15th in the League table. As well as starting slowly in terms of results, the season had also started badly from a disciplinary point of view, and the four bookings earned in this match continued that form. The 18 yellow and two red cards given to Pirates players this term compared less than favourably with nine yellows and no reds at this point in the previous campaign.
