Craig Hinton is a defender who originally joined Rovers in 2004 from Kidderminster Harriers, where he had spent almost his entire career up to that point, making over 200 league appearances in six years. He spent a total of five years at Rovers, playing 153 league games and scoring three times, before being released by the club in the summer of 2009.
He returned to Rovers in 2011 as caretaker-assistant manager under temporary boss Stuart Campbell, who had requested that Hinton join him to help with coaching duties, and especially to be in charge on the bench while Campbell was playing.
Craig's uncle, Alan Hinton, was also a footballer and was capped twice by England in 1964.
Career[]
Craig began as a trainee at Birmingham City, but dropped out of the Football League to join Kidderminster in 1998 without making a first team appearance for the Blues. After six years at Kidderminster he joined Rovers for five years. On his release from Rovers he signed for Northampton Town where he was appointed as club captin, initially on a one-year contract which was later extended to a second year. Despite being a first team regular during his first season with The Cobblers he was only used in a single League Cup game during the 2010–11 season and was sent out on loan to Conference National side Luton Town in November 2010. He had played in just two FA Trophy games for Luton by the time he returned to Northampton in early January, and when Rovers enquired about acquiring his services as caretaker manager in March Northampton were happy to release him.
Following the end of Stuart Campbell's spell as caretaker manager Hinton left the club again, eventually finding employment as player-assistant manager at Solihull Moors, working under former Rovers man Marcus Bignot. He scored one goal for The Moors during 2011–12, which came from the penalty spot on the final day of the season.
