Christian Edwards was a defender who played for Rovers for three years. He joined on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest in 2003 and left the club at the end of the 2005-06 season, having decided to retire from professional football.

He has represented his home nation of Wales fourteen times at under-21 level, twice in 'B' internationals and has won one full cap, which he earned while playing for Swansea City.

Career[]

Christian began his professional footballing career in his native Wales with Swansea City, where he made 115 league appearances for the Swans. He was signed by Nottingham Forest in 1998 for a transfer fee of £275,000, but didn't feature regularly in the forest side until the 2000-01 season. After that season he fell out of favour once more, and was sent out on loan to a number of clubs before signing for Rovers on a free transfer in 2003. He had a loan spell at his first club, Swansea City in 2005, and ended up one game short of a century of league appearances for the pirates, when he was released on expiry of his contract in 2006. He decided to retire from professional football when he left Rovers, and later went on to join Forest Green Rovers and Aberystwyth Town.

While at Aberystwyth he was appointed caretaker manager for seven games early in the 2009–10 season. He recorded five wins, a draw and just one defeat during that spell. Later he was taken on as the club's assistant manager, ending his playing career at the end of the 2009–10 season, but he resigned from the post in February 2011 citing other commitments as the reason for his departure. He stated that he was having difficulty balancing the demands of the role with his position as Director of Football at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and his academic career as a PhD student.
