Chris Carruthers can play on the left side of midfield or as a left-back, but spent most of his time at Rovers playing in defence.

Chris had two spells as a Rovers player, having been on loan with the club in the 2004-05 season before joining permanently in the summer of 2005. He was released by the Pirates when his contract expired at the end of the 2007-08 season, having failed to make an impact on the first team during their first season back in League One.

Career[]

Chris's only senior club prior to joining the Pirates was Northampton Town. He made his debut for the Cobblers in the 2000-01 season, and went on to make 74 appearances for them before joining Rovers. After leaving Bristol he joined Blue Square Premier side Oxford United in the summer of 2008, but after a poor start at Oxford he was transfer listed in September. He remained a first team regular for the rest of the season in spite of this, but played just one match for the Us at the beginning of the 2009-10 season before being loaned out to Crawley Town on 1 September, transfer deadline day. When the Crawley deal expired Chris was sent out on loan again, this time to York City, and at the beginning of January 2010 he was released by Oxford and signed for York permanently.

He was released after two and a half years at York, joining up with Conference side Gateshead in 2011, but after only a single season with them he was again released. He signed for Hereford United on 20 July 2012 following a trial with them, lining up alongside another former Rovers man, Harry Pell, at Edgar Street.
