Colchester United won their first ever game at Bristol Rovers at the 14th attempt in this rather lacklustre affair. Rovers, still mired in the League One relegation zone, had hoped to continue their remarkable unbeaten run at home to The 'U's, but a first half strike from Kayode Odejayi earned all three points for the Essex side.

After the game Pirates manager Dave Penney was extremely critical of his team, claiming the Colchester had outplayed them in every aspect of the game.
