On 15 January 2008 Rovers were scheduled to stage an FA Cup third round replay against Premier League side Fulham at the Memorial Stadium. The replay was necessary after the two sides drew 2-2 on 6 January 2008. Unfortunately heavy rain caused the fixture to be postponed by a week, until 22 January. After a pitch inspection on the 22nd, the game went ahead on a very muddy pitch.
Bristol Rovers v Fulham[]
Rovers names an unchanged 16-man squad from the previous game, a 1-1 draw against Walsall. Fulham came to the Memorial Stadium without a win since new manager Roy Hodgeson had taken over a few weeks earlier. Future Rovers loanee Wayne Brown made his senior debut for Fulham in this game, having graduated from their youth ranks the previous summer.
The match was played in poor conditions, with the pitch heavily damaged from the weekend's football and rugby matches. Neither side managed to find the back of the net in either the 90 minutes or extra time, resulting in the game going to a penalty shoot-out. Rovers scored all five of their penalty kicks, but Fulham missed their first when Jimmy Bullard's shot was saved by Steve Phillips, giving The Gas a 5-3 victory.
