Bobby Zamora is a forward who joined Rovers as a youth player from West Ham United. In 1999 he was promoted to the first team squad at Rovers, and made four league appearances, all from the bench, during the 1999-00 season, as well as one game in the FA Cup and one in the League Cup. He didn't score any goals for Rovers.
After leaving the club he went on to play in the Premier League and played for the England Under-21 side, as well as winning two full international caps for England in 2010 and 2011.
Career[]
Bobby transferred into the Rovers youth setup from West Ham's, and progressed to the Pirates first team squad in 1999. He only spent a single season with the Rovers first team, and during that year he had loan spells at Bath City and Brighton & Hove Albion. He impressed the Brighton management enough to persuade them to spend a £100,000 transfer fee to take him to the Withdean Stadium. He went on to play 119 league games after his transfer, scoring 70 goals, when Tottenham Hotspur paid £1,500,000 for his services in 2003, netting Rovers a further £500,000 from the sell-on clause in his contract.
Zamora played for Tottenham for less than a year, failing to find the back of the net in 16 Premier League games before joining West Ham United in 2004 in a swap deal for Jermain Defoe. He remained at West Ham for four years, and played 130 league games and scored 30 goals for the Hammers. In the summer of 2008 he was signed by Fulham for £4,800,000, and at the end of his second season there he played in the final of the UEFA Europa League.
He was signed by Queens Park Rangers in the January 2012 transfer window for £6,000,000, and scored on his debut for them.
