Arthur Cartlidge was a goalkeeper who spent seven years with Bristol Rovers, from 1901 until 1908, and was a member of the Southern League-winning side in 1904-05. He was born in Stoke on 12 June 1880, and died in his home town in 1940, aged 59 or 60.
Cartlidge was brought to Bristol having played ten games for Stoke (now Stoke City) in the First Division of the Football League. He went on to make 258 league appearances between the sticks for Rovers before returning to First Division football by joining Aston Villa in 1908. He made a return to Stoke in 1911, where he spent a season playing in their Southern League team.
