The number 37 was not used in English league football until the introduction of squad numbers into the club game. This was initially done by the Premier League in 1993, followed by the Football League in 1999.

Only one player has scored a league goal for Rovers while wearing the number 37, when Danny Williams netted the opener in a 3–0 victory over York City on 27 March 2004. Defender Danny Senda has worn the 37 in more league games than anyone else, making 15 appearances during the 2010–11 season.
