League Two during the 2013–14 season

The 2013–14 season is the 131st season of football played by Bristol Rovers, and their 87th in the Football League. The team are playing in the newly renamed Sky Bet League Two, the fourth level of English football, for the third consecutive season following their relegation in 2011.

The summer marked a change in club captain, with Tom Parkes being given the armband for the campaign. He had taken over the role for the second half of 2012–13 following season-ending injuries to previous holders Matt Gill and Adam Virgo, but manager John Ward was so impressed with the way he handled the responsibility he opted to make him captain permanently.

Pre-season[]

See 2013–14 pre-season for more details

A total of six pre-season friendlies were arranged in preparation for the 2013–14 season, two at home against Championship-level opposition and four away to non-league clubs.

The 2012–13 season had been marred by a lengthy injury list, with several first team players missing a large chunk of the campaign. Things didn't appear to be improving this time around with Fabian Broghammer, Ryan Brunt, Jim Paterson and Ollie Clarke all suffering serious injuries in pre-season. The injury crisis reached such a level that manager John Ward opted to cancel the game against Salisbury City as he didn't want to risk further problems.
